My Story
9 To 5 IDIOT (Buxton fringe)
Nine-to-five office worker, former anarchist who now lives in middle-class suburbia hating the local kids. Roland takes us on his own personal journey as to how he has arrived in Buxton doing stand up.
All original material. There is some terrific interaction with the audience. His encyclopedic knowledge of towns and cities in Britain produced some great one liners to sum up the home towns of his audience. It was great when he pointed out some of the advertising clangers that had been made.
All in all we all enjoyed the show and when he declared that he was happier now than he had ever been earning high salaries and driving big cars whilst working in advertising - you could tell!

I’d recommend the free fringe. I saw a few shows there last year. One comedian that stood out was Roland Gent. Really funny. The free fringe is cheap and you can get in with out all the fuss of the main fringe.
LEITH FM EDINBURGH FESTIVAL RADIO 2009
Hosted by Kim and Annabel
Roland ran the show for the first 15 mins. A wickedly witty guy who gave some great advice for Leith FM on how to get their USPs sizzlin. And did a wicked John Peel impersonation. Lots of observations about the day to day office environment and how everyone has big ambitions and dreams but we never fulfil them, well we can’t all be rich and famous can we?

4* Come back next year
reviewer: Janet Foster, England, 19 Aug 2008
Sketch can sometimes be a bit hit and miss but this show did not disappoint and is one of the best I've seen this festival!Particularly liked the jeweller and Jimmy hostage situation. Some brilliant writing has gone into this. It's v original and v funny. Had great time, thanks!
5* - Very very funny
reviewer: T Lean, Scotland, 19 Aug 2008
I told the people in the show that this was the funniest show I had seen in Edinburgh this year. I've seen some more since but this is still the funniest. It's a bit raw in places and if you are a fan of the Royal family (Diana in particular) you will prob be offended and go early! But this is Edinburgh and the Fringe and this is what its about for me. There are some bits of real genius here, boring shop keeper and kidnapped milkman. Amy Winehouse was brilliant and the man with the wall. The funniest show at the fringe this year.

Daringly different! 21 Aug 2006 4 Stars, reviewer: Maxwell Tillbrook,

I saw this show twice whilst I was in Edinburgh because the show was so great the first time I didn't think they could follow it up. The show I saw had them taking ideas from the audience and taking it to an extreme. They had one guy who was sitting near me who wanted to be a porn star and very quickly the whole audience (yes, I found myself joining in!) was shouting out ideas, trying to be more disgusting than the previous suggestion! This was not highbrow stuff but it was hilarious and to be fair to the guys they were only working with what the audience gave them. It was a riot, very funny and a refreshing change from the over polished 'observational' stuff that there is all too much of at the Fringe. The second time I caught the show the guys seemed to have ditched the improv element and did about 30mins each of stand up, which was of a high standard, but I was disapointed not to be as involved as the previous show. Perhaps they have ditched the improv altogether or perhaps they were just having a break for one night, I do hope its the latter. The improv was daring and innovative and what the Fringe is all about. Had they recreated the atmosphere of the first show I would have given them 5 *'s with no hesitation. Though the stand up stuff was good I'm going to give them 4*'s. One of the most memorable shows at this years Fringe. Thanks guys!
Show Reviews from my club dates
"Now the night had been rolling along nicely until Roland Gent came along! Roland sent the quality levels soaring. His amiable style insisted that the audience soon warmed to him and his excellent material and delivery ensured that the warmth son turned into hardcore belly laughs. Several times Roland had the audience gasping for breath as superbly weaved his way through his act.
His uncanny John Peel impression was a winner especially when tied together with some great material. Roland left the stage with a great audience reception and rightly so, this man rocked. In my humble opinion, Roland left the headline act with his work cut out." - locknloadcomedyclub.com
"A quality act, just the right amount of silliness, wit and winning material" - Big Issue
"One to watch out for, ridiculous flights of fancy combined with some well honed gags" - Manchester Evening News
"Finally, and I can’t say enough about this act (so I’m going to try to keep it short), was Roland Gent. Superb, really made the night, a real level to aspire to. Witty, confident, killer comebacks (pre-meditated and on the spot), able to build when its going right, quickly switching when it isn’t. Again, a lot of Roland’s choice of material is old reliables and well worn topics but to be able to pull it off in the way he does just means a subjective approach to it goes out of the window and you end up caught up in infectious laughter at the man’s inventiveness and style." - Chris Judge, Space Comedy
